The Spring Season has launched!

posted 08 Dec 2023

The new Spring Season has launched with a variety of shows that’s sure to kick start your 2024, with smash-hit musicals, tributes to musical icons, new production partnerships and our continued support of York’s emerging talent. By providing more unique shows for 17-25 members to attend the theatre and group and family discounts to encourage visits, we continue the legacy of being a place for recreation and entertainment for local communities.

Pioneering independent theatre company Pick Me Up Theatre open the season in February 2024 with their version of horror-movie spoof Young Frankenstein (31 January – 3 February).

Following its success on both Broadway and the West End, the Joseph Rowntree Theatre Company brings the hilarious, witty and charming script of the whodunnit comedy musical Curtains to the stage (7-10 February).

Building on the Theatre’s commitment to provide a vibrant community hub, the whole world of music comes alive on stage with the likes of gospel, classical, show tunes, blues & jazz, pop and more, as the city’s biggest Community Choir Festival returns for its eighth year (25 February).

Critically acclaimed at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the theatre is delighted to welcome Robert Temple for the first time with his show of improvised comedy in The Hypnotist – Red Raw, using the audience to unlock their imagination (6 March).

Known for his boisterous comedies, playwright John Godber’s story Shakers brings to life the worst bar in town in a riotously funny show performed by Rowntree Players (14-15 March).

Selling over one million tickets for his hit Vegas show the Rat Pack Spectacular, producer and performer Wayne Kennedy’s Soul Train offers an unforgettable night of Motown, Disco and Rhythm & Blues on Friday 29 March.

In April, they then return to capture the raw funk and soul of Nile Rodgers in Chic to Chic (6 April), recreate the super Swedes greatest hits in 21st Century ABBA (14 April) and take you on the enthralling musical journey of the Carpenters in This Carpenters Masquerade (4 May).

That’s Variety lands in York on 3 May featuring stars such as Holly Tandy (The X Factor), comedian Jack Gleadow and impressionist The Man They Call G (The London Palladium) to name a few in this grand evening of entertainment.

Find out if modern romantic ideals can triumph over traditional values in NETheatre York’s Fiddler on the Roof from 23-27 April and an inventive production filled with monsters and exciting challenges in The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical based on the book by Rick Riordan, hits the stage in May between 16-18 performed by York St John’s Musical Performance Society.
