Generation Groove began on 1st August 2002 under a working title of Cottage Harmony. We began with just six members and and rapidly grew over the next few weeks to over 21 players. In just four months we had grown to forty members in the band. Many of our new members had never played in a band before and the Joseph Rowntree Theatre was their first experience of playing in a much larger concert venue.
We play a variety of musical styles, from the Big Band swing era of the 30s and 40s through to arrangements of contemporary pop classics, and also original compositions.
We rely totally on subscriptions and donations and are a non profit making organisation. All proceeds from the concerts are reinvested back into the band providing items such as music, music stands and other related equipment the band needs in order to continue these concerts.
We welcome any wind or brass players that would like to join the band. We rehearse on Thursday nights at Haxby Memorial Hall, 16 The Village, Haxby YO32 3HT from 19:30 to 21:30. All ages are welcome, hence the name Generation Groove. If you require any further information please call our Musical Director (Miss Diane Parry) on 07891 650164.
Intro was formed as an introduction to Generation Groove and for members to gain experience playing in a band. We welcome anyone who has been playing a wind or brass instrument for a short while (or drums, keyboard, guitars).
This may be a young person who has taken up playing music, but also maybe an older person who wishes to learn another instrument to their main instrument. We also welcome people who used to play and would like to ease themselves into playing in a gentle, relaxed surrounding.
Intro has their own identity within Generation Groove with their own logo and uniform.
To learn more about Intro come to a rehearsal on Thursdays at 18:00 at Haxby Memorial Hall, 16 The Village, Haxby YO32 3HT, or phone 07891 650164 for more details.
