Finding The Theatre

The Theatre is a mile from the centre of York on Haxby Road, opposite the Nestlé factory and next to the Nuffield Hospital. There is parking close by - see the parking page, as well as the area marked on the map below. If you are travelling by public transport then we have a page detailing the bus service. Driving directions are given further down the page, or can be obtained using the Google map shown below.

Satellite Navigation Systems

You should use the postcode YO31 8TA to locate the theatre as this works on nearly all SatNav systems — the official theatre postcode (YO91 1RT) may map to the postal sorting office several miles away especially if you have an older SatNav system.

When using a SatNav system to find the theatre please check that the destination is on Haxby Road near the junction with Haley's Terrace to ensure you are going to the correct location

Getting Here

From City Centre

  1. From the station head towards the river.
  2. Proceed along Station Avenue
  3. Follow the road to the right under the bar walls
  4. Immediately bear left and head over Lendal Bridge
  5. Proceed to the traffic lights and turn left.
  6. Pass the Theatre Royal on the right and stay in the right hand lane.
  7. At the next set of traffic lights go straight on, onto Gillygate
  8. Proceed to the next set of traffic lights (left hand lane) and go straight ahead onto Clarence Street
  9. At the next set of traffic lights (right hand lane) take the right hand fork onto Haxby Road
  10. Proceed along Haxby Road over a bridge, the theatre is situated on the right just beyond the Nuffield Hospital and before the roundabout
  11. For the Car Park take the 2nd exit off the roundabout then immediate left again and proceed through the first car park into the rear car park.

Total Distance 1.5 miles, approx 45 minutes walk.

From North

From the York North Outer ringroad (A1237)

  1. Take the exit sign posted New Earswick.
  2. Continue through New Earswick
  3. Carry on down Haxby Road, following signs for York.
  4. At the roundabout outside the Nestlé Factory, take the first exit onto Haley’s Terrace then immediate left again and proceed through the first car park and into the rear car park.

From the South, East or West

  1. Head towards York via the A64, proceed to junction with A1237
  2. Follow the A1237 until reach the exit signposted New Earswick
  3. Follow directions as from the North.
