Grace Darling - The Musical

Worldwide Premier

York Stars

30 June to 3 July

A new musical written by Dennis Westgate and directed by Charlotte Gray.

The show begins with Grace as a young girl, playing on the rocks in the village of Bamburgh in the year 1826 and follows her through her life, with her love interest, Joseph Swann and the rest of her family at the Lighthouse, where she lives. The show features the life-boat rescue that made Grace famous and what happened in the aftermath. Concluding in 1842, when Grace was 26.

The show has a variety of musical numbers, including Keeper of the Light which Mr Darlings sings, revealing all about his life as a Lighthouse keeper, I care nothing for fame which appears late on in the show with Grace expressing how she doesn't like the attention the rescue has given her and the haunting In your Shadow sung by her love interest, Joe.

This musical is suitable for all ages, whether they have previous knowledge about Grace Darling or not. It offers an insight into this amazing woman's life and portrays what life was like in the 1800's. It's a show with outstanding music, a fantastic cast and is sure to stay with people long after they leave the theatre.
